                  Our Purpose:

We want to create a theatrical production using all forms of arts, that will address many teenage issues such as bullying, self harm, depression, suicide, eating disorders, mental illness, relationships, parents, etc; as well as providing solutions to get through them.

We will include drama, dance, live music performance, poetry, writing, spoken word, and visual art. It is our desire that students around our school will not feel alone in their problems, but will reach out for help. We will create an inclusive atmosphere in our school community that will foster creativity. We hope that the students involved in this production will find their voices and will speak out to make a difference.

Our main objective is to help our peers find a sense of belonging by knowing that others have struggled with the same issues. We meet weekly in order to collaborate with creative minds and create a theatrical performance that will provide hope for our peers and awareness for our audience. In our final production we will be providing information about sources of help to cope with different types of trauma.

Our production is unique because it is created entirely by students. We will have live music written by students for our soundtrack and for our dancers to choreograph to. We want to make connections to people, encouraging teens to express themselves and get help when needed. We want to give them answers of where to turn to. We hope to present this in our school community and elsewhere.

                  Student Voice:

Our group, SUSO: Speak Up Speak Out, meets every Thursday after school. We learn life skills, such as leadership, creative thinking, articulate communication, future planning, and teamwork. Our group is inclusive and is promoting a socially inclusive atmosphere around our school. We are supportive of each other`s creative works, whether they are about personal or social issues.

Our main tenet is to break silence of the things that are taboo and contradict the societal pressure to stay silent about important issues. Many different learning styles are encompassed in our group, including visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Being very individual in the way that we create, our members bring in everything from poetry to music, spoken word, visual art, or anything else we have created. We do not delineate as to what specifically has to be said, but instead we focus on genuineness and individuality in how the students expresses themselves, and how it helps others.

As a group, we give feedback to each other in a positive and constructive way. The students are always informed of details of the group, with nothing hidden. We have chosen to focus on student life, and the problems that students encounter in order to offer hope and a sense of belonging.
